IELTS Test Pattern 2021: Test format and Question Pattern

Are you planning to take up the IELTS test in 2021? As we know, IELTS is developed as the world’s leading language assessment test. It is the English language assessment test accepted for immigration purposes in more than 140 countries. If you wish to migrate to countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland or the USA, passing the IELTS test is your first milestone.

From Government departments, Immigration authorities, to Multinational companies, they validate your language proficiency based on your IELTS score. The IELTS test has four components such as reading, writing, speaking and listening. IELTS scores on a nine-band scale, with each band corresponding to a specified competence and level in the English language. 

If you are preparing for the test this year, there are no changes in the syllabus of the IELTS 2021 Exam. However, a new format of IELTS is being introduced named as IELTS Indicator. This is for candidates to attempt the test at home. Read below to know everything about the IELTS test in 2021.

IELTS Test Pattern 2021

The IELTS syllabus consists of four sections. They are Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The total duration of the test is 2 hours 45 minutes. The given table consists of the data regarding the four sections, their duration and the number of tasks assigned in each section.

The IELTS 2021 test does not contain any change in the type of questions. 

  • The Reading section of IELTS 2021 includes generic paragraphs from books, journals, magazines, newspapers etc.
  • The Writing section will have questions based on general essay topics.  
  • The listening section contains audio clips for which the candidates must listen and answer.
  • The Speaking section will ask the candidates to speak on specific general topics by the examiner on the day of the test.

Apart from the changes mentioned above, the IELTS pattern will not have any further changes for the year. Therefore, if you enrol with authorised IELTS training classes, you can learn the skills quickly. Also, there is no negative marking for incorrectly answering any questions in the test. Below mentioned are the pattern of that score for each section.

Types Of IELTS Test

Now that you have read the pattern of questions, the score and the duration. There are two types of tests. They are:

  1. IELTS Academic: 

The IELTS Academic test is designed for candidates who want to study in an English-speaking country. The Speaking section and Listening section are the same for both IELTS Academic and General tests. 

The IELTS Academic Writing test assesses the candidate’s ability to understand and write based on academic concepts. The IELTS Academic test Reading section focuses on your reading ability to answer questions from books, journals, magazines and newspapers.   

2. IELTS General 

The IELTS General Training test is designed for candidates who want to study below degree level in an English-speaking school or college or general immigration. 

The IELTS GeneralWriting test assesses the candidate’s skills by evaluating topics that are of general interest. The Reading Test will be conducted from materials that you encounter and use daily.

 

IELTS Indicator

 The world has been struck for more than a year by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the 2020 and 2021 exams have been in trouble. To tackle this, IELTS has introduced an IELTS indicator. So what is the IELTS indicator?

IELTS Indicator is the new online test that candidates can take from their own homes. This procedure will help students and immigrants to continue education during the Covid-19 situation.

The test is available for all four sections of the exam: listening, reading, writing, and Speaking. The test is live and is marked by IELTS examiners on the other virtual side. You can access the IELTS Indicator if you have your computer system and a proper internet connection. The exam conducts the Listening, Reading, and Writing in one sitting and the Speaking test a few days later. 

The following countries have the IELTS Indicator. Ensure that you check with the country you wish to migrate to. You must also check with the institutions/ universities if the IELTS indicator score is accepted.

The IELTS test has not changed this year. However, the new IELTS indicator is a new introduction that you should know about. All that you need to do now is start preparing. Prepare for your test with the accurate materials and training classes to fly to your dream country in 2021!
